The CR-V is a versatile compact SUV that's stylish, reliable, and full of useful tech, and it has been beloved by American drivers for over a quarter-century now. It would be easy for Honda to rest on its laurels and not make major changes to a vehicle that's already so well-liked, but that's not what's happening, as Honda is continuing to innovate and make this model better and better, rewarding loyal customers with an elevated driving experience.

There are plenty of examples to be found in the upgrades being made for the 2026 Honda CR-V. Even though the model just had a major redesign for the 2023 model year, it's getting an array of significant updates for 2026, from new tech being made standard to an all-new trim level that makes the CR-V more rugged and capable than ever before. Whether you're looking for a family car, a commuter vehicle, an adventure wagon, or a versatile jack of all trades, there's something for you in the latest CR-V lineup.

With two great powertrain options and a variety of trim levels to choose from, this compact SUV truly has something for everyone. No matter what configuration you choose, you'll enjoy a spacious interior, a comfortable ride, and Honda's sterling reputation for building reliable vehicles that stand the test of time.

Cabin Tech

You don't need to upgrade to a top-tier trim level in order to get a CR-V that's loaded with helpful and convenient tech features. Several features that used to be extras reserved for higher trims are now standard across the board, so you can enjoy them no matter your budget. Front and center, there's a nine-inch HD touchscreen that's two inches bigger than the previously standard screen. That makes text and camera views easier to see, so you can get the information you need with a glance and get your eyes back on the road ASAP.

You won't need a cable to connect your smartphone to this screen, so you can use the CR-V's infotainment system to get step-by-step navigation directions, respond to calls and texts hands-free, listen to music through your favorite streaming apps, and more. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard fare, allowing compatible phones to connect to the system cord-free. But that's not all you can do cord-free, as you can also charge your device on the standard wireless charging pad. Since cables are easy to lose and easy to break, these features can be a lifesaver for busy professionals, parents, and travelers who need to stay connected while they're out and about.

Of course, some updates are exclusive to higher-level trims. The top-tier CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid, for example, is getting an "Individual" drive mode that lets you customize a variety of performance settings like throttle response and steering assist for a unique feel. It also gets Google built-in, a personal smart assistant that you can control with voice commands while you're on the go. But while there are still benefits to upgrading to higher trims, the entry-level LX trim is more well-rounded than ever, giving all drivers access to a CR-V that works for their needs.

Safety Tech

The 2026 CR-V is loaded with advanced features that can help keep you safe and secure while you're out on the road. The Honda Sensing suite comes standard across all trims and provides you with a variety of driver assistance features to help you stay aware of your surroundings and avoid danger. This includes a collision mitigation braking system that prevents collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians, a road departure mitigation system to help you stay in your lane and on the road, traffic sign recognition to help you keep track of speed limits and other important information, and adaptive cruise control, which can automatically adapt to the speed of traffic, slowing down and speeding back up as necessary and even automatically coming to a complete stop if necessary.

Other available features give you even more to work with. A blind spot information system with a cross-traffic monitor is now standard on all trims except for the base LX, letting you keep track of vehicles around you on the highway and avoid accidents while backing out of a spot in a crowded parking lot. Some trims also feature parking sensors that make it even easier to get into and out of a tight space without bumping into any obstacles. Whichever trim you choose, you'll have the tools you need to keep yourself and your passengers safe wherever you go.

Powertrains

When you buy a 2026 CR-V, you have a choice between two highly capable powertrains. The base engine, which is standard on the LX, EX, and EX-L trims, is a 1.5L turbocharged I-4. It produces 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque, giving you the power you need to accelerate quickly to highway speeds and tow up to 1,500 lbs if you want to supplement your generous cargo capacity by bringing a trailer along. On top of that, this engine delivers great fuel economy figures, with a Honda-estimated 30 MPG combined in front-wheel drive.[b]] In all-wheel drive, this engine delivers a Honda-estimated 29 MPG combined while giving you extra traction to drive with confidence in bad weather or on unpaved roads.[b]

While the base engine is plenty impressive, the available hybrid powertrain has even more to offer. Delivering 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque, the 2.0L I-4 hybrid powertrain delivers sportier performance, which explains why you'll find the word "sport" in all of the trims that feature this setup (Sport, TrailSport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring). While the weight of the battery lowers the towing capacity slightly, the hybrid can still tow up to 1,000 lbs, which is plenty for most drivers. Where it really shines, as you might expect, is fuel economy. In all-wheel drive, the hybrid delivers a Honda-estimated 37 MPG combined (or 35 MPG combined with the TrailSport trim), while front-wheel-drive hybrid models make a truly impressive Honda-estimated 40 MPG combined, which can save you a lot of money on fuel over time.[b]

TrailSport Trim

New for the 2026 model year, the CR-V now has a rugged TrailSport trim that can handle off-road action so you can explore the great outdoors in comfort and style. This trim is available exclusively with the efficient hybrid powertrain, so you can enjoy nature while knowing that you're also doing your part to protect it. It comes standard with the CR-V's real-time all-wheel drivetrain, which turns AWD on and off automatically to give you extra efficiency during normal driving and then the traction you need in off-road conditions or on rainy days.

This new trim comes standard with 18-inch wheels surrounded by all-terrain tires so you can get a grip on loose surfaces, from dirt roads and gravel driveways to off-road trails. It also has exclusive style features to help you show off your outdoorsy personality, like an exclusive Ash Green metallic paint color, orange badges on the grille and tailgate, and black accents across the exterior. Inside, the TrailSport logo is embroidered on the headrests of the front seats and molded into the all-season floor mats.

The TrailSport trim benefits from a new feature for the 2026 model year that will also be available on any CR-V trim that's paired with the real-time all-wheel drivetrain. Enhanced traction management kicks into gear when you're driving at speeds below 9 mph. If the system detects a difference in the rotation speeds between wheels, it sends driving force to the tires with the best grip, and it applies braking force to the slipping wheels. With the new traction management system, both of these forces are increased significantly, allowing it to help you overcome a wider variety of situations, both on the road and off.
