Is the 2025 Prologue the Most Advanced Honda to Date?

The Prologue represents the start of an exciting new chapter in Honda's long history. This midsize crossover is Honda's first major EV, which might surprise some drivers who are familiar with the brand's cutting-edge reputation. While other automakers rushed into the EV segment, Honda took a measured approach, invested $65 billion in research, and struck up a fruitful collaboration with General Motors. The Prologue is underpinned by GM's Ultium EV battery and motor architecture, which has been powering some of the industry's most exciting EVs since 2022.

Honda's latest EV marks the first time the Ultium tech has been used outside of the GM umbrella, and the benefits are obvious: Honda avoids the pitfalls that plague the R&D process, and the Prologue hits the market at full speed. By biding its time and leveraging the power of the country's largest automaker, Honda has managed to rocket itself into the EV conversation with an eye-catching new crossover that's quickly winning over drivers and critics alike—but the new Ultium platform isn't the only advanced technology that makes the 2025 Honda Prologue such a tempting addition to the EV segment.

In fact, the Prologue might just be the most advanced Honda model to date. Let's check in on Honda's first crossover EV and see how the Prologue is setting a new bar in this fast-growing segment...

More Power for 2025

The Prologue has only been on the market since 2024, but Honda is already updating the midsize EV with a new front-mounted motor for 2025. While the debut model got along just fine with its 212-hp front motor, a little tweak sees the new version offer an extra 8 hp (and an extra 7 lb-ft of torque) to bring the total to 220 hp for the front-wheel-drive Prologue.

The all-wheel drive version also gets a nice bump, producing 300 hp to the 2024 model's 288 hp. It's a modest improvement, but the fact that Honda is already looking to improve on a year-old model bodes well for the future of the Prologue and the brand as a whole. The upgraded front motor goes a long way toward improving confidence behind the wheel with the extra horsepower, allowing the Prologue to keep pace with highway traffic and provide plenty of pep when you need it most.

While additional power often comes at the cost of driving range in the world of all-electric vehicles, Honda has pulled off a neat trick by not just maintaining but actually improving the Prologue's range despite the more powerful front motor. The new Prologue boasts an EPA-estimated 308 miles of all-electric range for the FWD model and 294 for the AWD version, which represents an extra 12 and 13 miles, respectively.[a]

The SUV's 85.0-kWh battery pack and 155-kW max charging rate bring the power up to 90% with just 48 minutes of charging, which means the Prologue will be all fueled up and ready to go by the time you're done with your workout routine at the gym.[b] An adjustable regenerative braking system allows drivers to make the most of every mile and can be easily modified using a steering wheel-mounted paddle.

Safety Comes Standard

The Prologue EV serves as the ideal showcase for Honda's comprehensive suite of advanced safety tech. Every 2025 trim has been treated to a generous array of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which makes the Prologue something of a standout in a market where more sophisticated features are often reserved for higher trims and optional equipment packages.

Whether you settle on the base EX or the range-topping Elite, you'll enjoy a full raft of ADAS, from frontal collision mitigation and lane-keeping assistance to rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. The Touring trim does gain front parking sensors, and the Elite adds a rear pedestrian alert function that's sure to come in handy when navigating a densely packed parking lot, but every other safety and ADAS system is included free of charge.

The EV also packs a couple of features aimed at reducing those moments of sheer panic that can come with making a lane change while there's another vehicle lurking in your blind spot. The Prologue's Blind Spot Information System can alert drivers to the presence of another vehicle while changing lanes or in reverse, while Blind Zone Steering Assist goes one step further, automatically guiding the EV back into your lane to avoid a costly accident.

These crucial safety features—along with Honda's expertise in crafting safe, reliable vehicles—have allowed the 2025 Prologue to achieve a stellar five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.[c] Safety has always been Honda's strong suit, but the new opportunities afforded by emerging sensing, imaging, and automation technology are opening new doors and giving drivers a taste of what's to come.

A Trim for Every Driver

The EX

With three diverse trims to choose from, there's a 2025 Prologue out there for every driver and every budget. Honda kicks off the new model year with the EX, a value-packed base trim that includes a surprising number of premium features. The EX really outdoes itself in terms of comfort with a driver's seat that's both power-adjustable and heated, which, along with the Prologue's dual-zone automatic climate control, will help keep you warm during those chilly winter mornings.

The EX is offered with an impressive suite of convenience features, including a wireless charging pad, keyless entry, and keyless start. If there's one area where the Prologue's base trim really shines, it would have to be its interior tech. The EX features the same 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as the two upper trims, not to mention a digital instrument panel, a Google-based infotainment system, and wireless smartphone connectivity courtesy of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A set of 19-inch wheels and LED lights up the EX's curb appeal and make the trim an enticing option for any drivers looking to experience Honda's first fully electric SUV.

The Touring

The Prologue's Touring trim includes all the gear you'll need to hit the open road, but its focus on comfort really sets it apart. A panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a set of power-adjustable front seats might not sound like world-changing features, but they can have a noticeable impact on the overall driving experience, creating a cozy, inviting cabin that'll have you looking forward to every ride. A hands-free power liftgate makes it easy to access the Prologue's rear storage area when you're loaded down with camping gear or groceries, while roof rails give drivers the option of expanding the SUV's cargo capacity with a bike rack, cargo box, or even a rooftop tent that'll turn the EV into a readymade adventure machine.

Tech and safety upgrades range from front parking sensors and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system to an auto-dimming rearview mirror designed to prevent the disorientation caused by tailgating drivers. This sort of thoughtful, safety-enhancing tech really exemplifies Honda's commitment to building a better EV. While it would have been easy to stick to the beaten path, Honda has blazed a trail all its own and put the rest of the industry on notice in the process.

The Elite

The Elite pulls out all the stops to offer drivers a thoroughly modern driving experience. You'll never need to worry about frantically searching the house for your keys, thanks to the EV's key card entry: Its slim card-size key can be tucked into your wallet or purse and used to both access and start the Prologue. This SUV also eschews the typical backup camera for a sophisticated new Surround Vision System that offers drivers a bird's-eye view of the area immediately surrounding the vehicle.

That feature should be a boon to any driver who doubts their parking skills and can be really convenient when it comes to taking advantage of the Prologue's 1,500-lb towing capacity. Making that trailer hitch connection or backing down a boat ramp can prove difficult for even the most experienced motorist, but the Surround Vision System takes all the frustrating guesswork out of the task. This ultimate trim also gains power-folding and auto-dimming sideview mirrors to compliment the auto-dimming rearview mirror, and additional interior lighting that's sure to brighten your day or night.

Of course, the trim wouldn't truly be "Elite" without a few upgrades to the Prologue's tech arsenal, and Honda has you covered with a heads-up display (HUD) and a 110-volt outlet for all your power and charging needs. The HUD is particularly intriguing and ups the EV's safety resume with the ability to track speed, GPS directions, Honda Sensing alerts, and other pertinent driving info without taking your eyes off of the road. The Prologue rounds out its Elite trim with a set of alluring 21-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats that ensure you arrive at your destination cool, calm, and ready to take on the day.
